Abstract
Recently, many authors reported that injection of DHA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate produce favorable conditions for delivery in women with an unripe uterine cervix, softened the birth canal and triggered the onset of labor.
In order to study the effect of DHA-S on cervical ripening, a total of 40 pregnant women. at term with Bishop score less than 4 studied.
They were divided into two groups: 20 women were treated with DHA-S and 20 women. served as control subjects.
The result were as follows;
1. The effective rate of DHA-S injection, Bishop score over 7 and delivery cases, was 55%(11/20 cases) in DHA-S treated group.
2. The rate of increased Bishop score over 3, was 75% (15/20 cases) in DHA-S treated group.
3. In DHA-S non treated group, no case had increased Bishop score over 3.
4. In DHA-S treated group, average Bishop score before DHA-S injection was 2.3, and average Bishop score in 3 hrs, 6 hrs, 9 hrs after DHA-S injection were 2. 8, 5. 1, 7, 3.
5. The interval between the first administration of DHA-S and the onset of labor, was average 3. 7 hrs (3. 2 hrs in primipara, 4. 1 hrs in multipara) in effective DHA-S treated group, and average 10. 1 hrs in DHA-S non treated group.
6. The interval between the onset of labor and delivery was average 7. 6 hrs (9. 4 hrs in primipara, 5. 8 hrs in multipara in effective DHA-S treated group, and average 9. 9 hrs in DHA-S non treated group.
7. No patient complained of any side effects and the rate of Apgar score over 9 at 1 min was 90% (13/20 cases).
